Am just about ready to paint a 1939 B John Deere that I have restored. Can anyone tell me which color is correct for the fan blades. Were they yellow from the factory? Also, were the front wheel hubs completely yellow, or did they have green on the backsides?

Yes opinions very strongly on the fan but it does seem the factor painted "some" fan blades (back side only)yellow "with a brush" and a 46B I am just finishing tends to back the theory up. I removed all paint and under the one after factor paint job I found yellow paint on the blades as well as yelow paint dripped onto the inside of the fan shroud suggesting a sloppy paint job consistant with a brush job. I did paint mine yellow but I just couldn"t bring myself to brush it on after all that work making the green paint look so slick. I sprayed the blades yellow before re-installing the fan shaft. I plan to do each tractor on an individule basis, if I find yellow I will paint them yellow, if not I won"t. I reserve the right to change my mind on that comment!

Front hubs all yellow. Back sides of fan blades will raise controversy ! But I do like them yellow it helps to break up all that green. I was thinking that the yellow backsides was for the models with the slip clutch on the blades verses the solid rubber hub and up to 1947 model years.
