Got the 20 with oxidized aluminum on the steering column housing. What is the best way to clean this and preserve or if need be, possibly paint this to prevent reoccurance?
Thanks for the help!

For corroded aluminum, I use EAGLE brand etching mag wheel cleaner from auto parts stores,as it will get into the pores of the metal and really clean it up. I've been using it for years to remove the "white rust", and save old aluminum carberators that I get at junk yards and swap meets. A real thourogh rinsing with hot water to get rid of the phosforic acid and a quick dry are neccesary, Then spray with CRC power lube or 3in One oil for long term protection.

Hi Bruce,

20?

Here's what I would do:

1. Disassemble and sandblast using Black Beauty extra fine grit so as not to leave a noticeable profile.

2. Clean with PPG DX533 aluminum cleaner

3. Treat with PPG DX501 aluminum conditioner

4. Coat with PPG DAU75 acrylic urethane clear. Caution - isocyanates in the required DXR80 hardener.

That is if you wish to maintain a long lasting, clean aluminum appearance. If not, then replace step four with your choice of primer and paint.
