I ordered this primer based on the input from Frank S. It sounds like the best stuff for the application (Backhoe), but it has been more than 2 weeks and my supplier can't get it.

Any one else have trouble getting this primer??

I like the corlar primer. My suggestion is to look to get a faster activator than the one my jobber gave me. I had to let the primer sit for 1-2 hrs before spraying, that was a pain.

John your jobber needs to look deeper into this, products rarely are on national back order, chances are your local warehouse is out and all the jobber needs to do is ask the warehouse to look elseware for it, the local warehouse will not look unless they ask. I can find out tomorrow who has it, whay area do you live in?

Thanks Frank --- I'm in west central Wisconsin (Eau Claire), but the order is out of northern Illinois. I ordered on-line as the local industrial guys were VERY hesitant to supply the primer. They had never sold any and didn't want to deal with it.

I did some digging and found that the primer and paint was shipped early or mid last week and then UPS did a paint can integrity test --> ran it over with a truck. It failed by the way.... I do wish that when "stuff happens" that the customer could be told instead of being left hanging.

They had to re-order from either N or S Carolina, does that sound right? Seems odd that nobody in the middle of America has any of this stuff. I just hope that it's worth the wait and hassle. After all, I've have 3000 pounds of bare sand blasted metal sitting on the floor of the shop quietly rusting for the past 2 1/2 weeks. {sigh} - looks like I will have to get 10-12 more bags of blasting abrasive and clean off the metal - again.

Hi JB,

It's probably because there is not enough demand for it in your area. I know my local retailers, both DuPont and PPG, cater to the local, relatively small time, autobody shops. Their economic well being is with the automotive lines, not the industrial/commercial ones. Even then, it's not likely they will stock all the products in any particular line - only the ones most in local demand by their customers - or what they think will sell for them. For example, PPG's venerable Delstar acrylic enamel is no longer available anywhere with 100 miles of me. It is still marketed by PPG and I am advised it is still available in the midwest. But not around here. There's just not enough local demand for an expensive acrylic enamel. Too much competition in the automotive "economy" lines for that older technology. I am surprised that DuPont's Centari, a long time competitor to Delstar is still available here.

Have you considered the need for the appropriate activator and thinner for the CORLAR? Here's the tech sheet for it. If your local jobber doesn't stock the main product, it may be that he doesn't carry the required mixing ingredients also, depending on how unique they are.

Thanks Rod,

Actually the folks I was dealing with locally support the local industrial base with paint products. They all use the other corlar which is sandable (2.5 I think). It is probably a good product, but the spec sheets bear out that the 2.1 PR has superior scratch and chip performance. That's important to me as the application is a backhoe. The 2.1 is a non-sanding primer, which probably makes it unpopular. The activator is coming with the primer.

I also agree on the older paints. The Centari line has been good to me. But I am a little surprised that it is still around as I haven't seen it in a while.
