Was wondering what some of you are using for a sandblasting mask. Seems all them say they are not to be used for sandblasting. I have a hood but need to know what to wear under it to protect from the dust. Also what is best for the media? Some say do not use the silica sand at all and othere say ise it but use a protective mask.

If you use silica sand (playground sand, etc) you MUST use a good particulate filter. I use a paint respirator 1/2 mask as it can get tightened down good. Recently, the supplied air respirator has been used with good success. That's a full hood with an air tube providing outside clean filtered air. Big benefit is the lack of grit in my ears, hair down the neck etc.

But, for the latest project the media of choice has moved to the black blast - it's a byproduct of coal fired power plants. The stuff works better with my small 100# pressure blaster and lower pressure pump due to it having sharp edges. Much more sharp than the fine sands my blaster will pass.
