I ran across something called:
S.A.S. Safety Corp. SAS2001-01 Pure Air 2000 Breathing System. This looks interesting since you can use your existing compressor and just buy this and a face mask, which would appear to be cheaper then buying a "normal" supplied air system. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Thanks.

Thanks gentlemen. I did find the system on Amazon for $190.00, but if I can get a normal fresh air system for $350.00, Its not going to be a significant savings, if any, by the time I buy the mask hoses, and other things that a fresh air system probably will come with as a set.

Again thanks for the info!

Hi Mark,

No direct experience with that unit but I'll give you my honest opinion. I take a dim view of an air filtration system instead of a direct fresh air system. Why try and filter any bad stuff out (oil vapors, etc.) when you can have fresh, breathable air directed to your facepiece and not be concerned with filtration efficiency and maintenance. There is no facepiece/hood or facepiece connection hose included with that particular version of the unit. Those would add significantly to the cost quoted. There is also no CO monitoring provision. To add that would drastically increase the cost still further. Check the comparative prices at the SAS manufacturer's website. The other thing I think you should consider is your available air capacity. Once you start taking breathing air from your compressor, you will rob at least 4 cfm (6 cfm for a hood) from your rated capacity. You should make sure you have enough reserve capacity over whatever is required for your largest spray gun or you will be short on one or the other.

In any event, by the time you are done, I doubt you will save any money and it will likely cost more than the fresh air systems typically mentioned in this forum ($350 - $450). Don't forget the regular maintenance costs for the filtration unit and/or the CO monitor. I don't know what those costs are but they are not zero. There are no such costs associated with a fresh air system.

Just some thoughts for you to consider.

Breathing compressor air, even if it"s filtered is a little troublesome to me.
I have an oil-less compressor (Stewart-Warner brand, same as SAS sells in it"s other system) that I use witha HobbyAir Hood. I like it.
