paint preparation question

I am going to paint the main body of the tractor.
The local paint shop that sells body shop supplies suggested that I first spray with a clear substance that will help the paint stick better. It costs about $13 a quart and he said that I should spray it right from the can without thinning.

Will this product work when spraying over bare metal? Any suggestions?

Forget the paint shop and use epoxy primer from a major manufacturer. I'm not familiar with all the products by any means, but I have never heard of that one.

It's either a clear sealer or a clear adhesion promoter. They sell both , but only to fools! You don't want OR need either one. Ask people who have done paint work , not people who SELL paint products. There's a ton of CRAP out there and a ton of "sales profesionals"????? out there waiting to dump it on you.

Not true. Some new plastic parts (no paint) need special primers, some of which are clear. I learned that the hard way. There's also a solvent used for adhesion in hard to scuff areas like jambs and blends. It's a cousin to paint remover. Etching is clear.
