I painted my 340 with Omni 170 (epoxy primer) and MTK a couple years ago, and as sure as anything I later had to pull the hydraulics block for a rebuild. Now, waiting to put back in, it looks a lot less painted than when I took it out!

I really don"t want to remove all the paint and start over, particularly considering all of the nooks and crannies, and also considering it isn"t in the most prominent location. I thought I"d rough it all with Scotchbrite followed by a solvent wipedown, then reprime the whole thing first with 170, and finally repainting. Or would a couple new coats of MTK be better at this point? Anyone else been in this dilemma? Would appreciate your advice.

Just pull the 4 long bolts and paint each separately. That's what I did. Use liberal applications of DX 330, that hydraulic oil gets everywhere.

Hi Paul,

Yep, I agree. ScotchBrite, 170, MTK.

Paul; I think you have the right idea. You'll get better adhesion of the MTK if you scuff, clean and primer, especially on the bare metal parts. I've had to do that on some of my parts.
