ok...so if i mix enamel with paint thinner how do i know if its too thick or too thin?

You can eliminate that problem by buying DuPont, PPG, etc--yes you will pay more for it. But, the mixing instructions are specific. An example is PPG Omni acrylic urethane. The ratio of paint:reducer:hardener is 4:1:1. You will never need to deviate from that. All you need to keep in mind is the proper reducer and hardener for the temperature range you will be painting in. All you need is a few measuring cups.

Zahn cup. Looks like a laddle with a small hole in the bottom. Guessing that paint would take 18 to 20 sec. to drain. Alkyd can be reduced with xylene for faster dry. Test with small amount to be sure.
