I want to paint the chrome fenders on my mortorcycle. What do I need to do for prep?

I'm not a real painter, just do some of my own stuff out of necessity, but back in '92 i painted the chrome bumpers on my Nova. All i did in prepwork was to scuff them with a scotchbrite pad (thinking i could go back and polish them out if it didn't work out)and then i sprayed some PPG epoxy primer on them. Haven't had any problems with them in the past 15 years (knock on wood)

Hi Maark,

I've never tried to paint chrome but if I were going to, I'd follow Len Stuart's suggestions in this thread. Len's the proprietor of autobodystore.com and a pro painter running his own high-end body shop.

I'd consider brush-blasting the fenders to provide some tooth instead of the 180 grit if you have the capability and the fenders are off the cycle. Definitely epoxy instead of etch for the primer though.
