depends if its a car or boat. if its in the water, check with your paint supplier on type of paint. the last boat i painted, 24 ft offshore boat, i used ppg dau, deltron acrylic urethane with dau 2 urethane hardener. for a primer base, dp 48 epoxy primer with dp401 catalyst. this stuff is probably off the market by now. you will need a good epoxy primer for your base coat, then either a single stage or base coat clear coat topcoat with a hardener.if you are doing any bodywork, use a product like duraglass, tigerhair, kitty hair for your body filler coats. you do need to grind between coats. if you are doing a buildup with resin and fiberglass matt, most fiberglass resins you get over the counter are waxed. they have a wax in suspension that floats to the surface when it cures. you need to grind this surface layer off to add the next layer.you can order unwaxed resin that doesnt need to be ground between coats, but the surface doesnt dry, your last coat needs to be waxed glass.anther odd thing with fiberglass repairs, the fiberglass in a repair contunues to cure the hotter it gets. if you lay glass at 90 degrees, and the car is parked in the sun afterwords, say it gets to 120 deg, the glass will cure more and you get shrinkage. you can see this on corvettes that have been repaired after a year or so. acetone will thin and clean up fiberglass resin. fiberglass work is itchy, wear a good respirator. hope this helps, my e mail is open if any more?????
