I just bought a new decal to go on the frame on my 7000 JD planter. How should i put it on, over the old one? bare metal? new paint then apply it? i've had decals not want to stick good in the past and didn't know why.

Nope, not unless you want to waste a decal.

See above.

Bingo! That's my choice.

Decals must be applied to a thoroughly clean and oil free surface. Bare metal is terrible for decals, as is dirty and oily paint. If the paint is poor where you want to apply the decal, I recommend painting it first and letting it dry good before application.

I'm having a senior moment, can't recall the name of the product I want to suggest you use before you apply the decal. Darn. Well, the product is sort of like a soap solution. You generously spray the area where you want to apply the decal. It permits movement, and if necessary, you can remove and reapply the decal without damaging it. Once you have the decal aligned to your satisfaction, you simply squeegee the solution from behind the decal. I use it all the time with automotive decals.
