Sheet metal troubles

Last night I sprayed the paint on my tractor. When I went to go look at it this morning, all of the sheet metal surfaces were bumpy and not smooth and glossy. I put hardener in the paint so I dont know what is wrong. Should I sand the surface until the bumps are gone and then put another coat on it? Is there some clear coat I should put over the paint? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

After re-reading your post, I tend to agree with Circus. Also, your problem can be caused by incompatibility between the primer and topcoat, or using the wrong hardener in the topcoat, or using the wrong reducer; particularly if you did not notice it right away -- I missed that part the first time I read it. Best to use all products from the same manufacturer.

If the bumps are bubbles, you have my sympathy. Strip off paint. Clean off ALL rust, moisture, oil and do over. Filter air lines for water & contaminates. Check for defective zinc coating on sheet metal. After market parts have hidden rust under the primer.

Sand flat with 400 and respray, you have either a gun problem or a technique problem, happens just as easily with or without hardener. Clear coat will not help, clear doesn't help much on single stage, even if done right.
