After much lurking, I think I've decided how to approach my rusty Allis B gas tank. This tank has a small pin hole in the bottom, and two significant gouge dents in the rear upper (right where the driver will see them..). The tank has about 30% surface rust, and the dents are the worst (obviously the paint was scraped off). The tank is rinsed and dry with no residual gas or varnish. My intent is to:
1. Strip the paint with lye.
2. Wash with soap and water.
3. Lightly sand blast to get some of the rough rust off (but not the soft bottom).
4. Rinse outside with phosphoric acid solution to remove remainder of rust. Paticualrly in the gouged dents. let dry.
5. Tape over pinhole, etch inside tank and use liner. Let fully dry.
6. Sand the pinholed area and the dents with red pad. Apply JB Weld, let harden, then blend in.
7. Scuff the exterior, wipe with naptha, let dry, and prime and paint (I'm using cheapo enamels from TSC, perfect for my purpose.

Assuming the primer and topcoat are compatible ( they better be, some of my jobs with them have held up for 6 years), what do you think of the prep plan?
2. Flush the inside
