Prob with rattle can paint fading faster I think is because it is thinned so much. Instuctions on paint you mix usually says that if thinned beyond the manufacturers recommendations you will lose luster and durability.

My experience with rattle can paint is that it has the nice glossy appearance but it sure dosent last as long as sprayed painted, starts fadding a lot faster!!

I would go ahead as you have planned. At the level of technology that you are useing,it is always an experiment. Prime the whole thing and just before you paint just hit it lightly with a scotch brite pad that you can get at any auto supply store.Don't sweat the spots you can't get. It isn't like the paint is just gonna fall off. Paint doesn't just fall off,it is usually knocked off. Yes it will "knock" off easier without adhesion it sounds like for your intended use you won't see the difference. Do it the way it works best for you. It's not a restoration.
