I bought a 1944 farmall H. There are three holes in the hood. One at the exhaust, one at the air cleaner, and one with nothing going through it on the right side parallel to where the air cleaner went through. Any ideas on why this is there?

the tractor hood is for an all fuel tractor. there was a small starting tank that mounted at the rear of the engine and the filler cap for gasoline came up thru the hood. see if your h has an x-1 code in the end of the serial number. if not it was either a distillate or kerosene tractor when new. most all were changed over to gasoline after distillate became harder to get, gas gave more power and was easier to operate. the all fuels had a radiator shutter, different exhaust manifold, it had a lever to regulate exhaust temperature, and the 7/8 gallon starting tank. also, the cylinder head was a low compression head.

You are probably correct. It does have an radiator shutter and there is no X1 in the serial number. Thanks
