Painting my ford 8n, the red emamel paint recommends 4 ounces of hardener per 32 ounces of paint. About how much thinner should I add?

I was taught to thin it so when you lift your stir stick up it will only come off in little drips and not like a stream. It usually takes more than they call for.

You didn't give enough info. There is a Zahn cup (dipper with a hole in the bottom) that you time the paint draining out. Usually 20 seconds.

Get a #2 Zahn cup and a stopwatch. You"ll always know if it is going to spray like gravel or water.

When i worked in the auto body trade, i would have to refinish cars completely! We had a nice paint booth, and an oven where the car was pushed inside, and baked to dry! So, one day, as i was stirring the paint, a paint rep came in to see me. As he watched me stirring the paint, and putting in the thinner (Reducer), he asked me how i could tell if i had it mixed correctly. So, i told him, when it looks good, running off the paint stick, then its ready to apply it! Well, that guy never asked me anything again about my methods! And, my refinish jobs had to be as good as factory, and when you have to match color and finish, thats as good as it gets!
