Is there any way, short of a grinder, to remove crome? I"ve never run into this problem with my old tractors, but I"m restoring a 56 Buick and the bumpers are a mess!

Look for an after market reproduction bumper. Rechroming may cost a grand. Paint?

Take the part to a good bumper chroming shop. They have a way to eletroplate the chrome off the part. I took the hood emblems off a Massey 1100 into such a shop and they first etched the old chrome off then they buffed the potmetal base metal then rechromed them. They were very proud of their work and charged me 50 bucks a piece but since there are no new parts available out there, they pretty much got their price because I didn't want to argue about it. Maybe if you shop around you can find a reasonable price.
