I am working on an old step-side pickup and have removed the bedside supports because of rust. I am blasting the bedsides, and have new bedside supports to be spot welded on. How can I paint under the bedside supports to prevent rust, and not burn it off when I weld them on? I don"t want rust to come from underneath the bedside supports. Thanks,
Josh

stop over at your nearest auto body supply store, get weld thru primer. comes in aerosol cans. its a zinc based primer designed specifically for blind areas. apply to both sides of the blind cavity. punch or drill your spot weld holes, line the panels up. where the spot welds go, clean the primer off where the weld will go. i use an old drill bit, flatten the tip off, place in spot weld hole and clean the primer off the back panel. then weld er in. the primer will flow around the weld and seal it. after you are done you can spray in a rust proofer or cavity wax.
