Starting on another Allis Chalmers. Starting on cleaning and welding up the gas tank kinda first. Just because I still have one tractor in the shop taking up the needed room to bring another one in. I will follow up with a few pictures later. I have the sure fire way to clean the inside down to bare metal and take out any small dints.

Anyone have a good way to clean a fuel tank when there is not rust or oxidation but just old bad gas in the tank ?

What will work to rinse out the old stale gas residue?

Keep in mind the take is stainless steel so no worries about rust just don't want to fill it up and have the old residue mix with the new and fill up the new carb with junk.

Thanks in advance for any help. Bob

Dick: How did you get that apart so neetly? Then when you put back together, do you solder or weld?

It is called salvage. One tank had the bottom rusted to where the outlet had pulled out. The other tank had been caved in very bad. I cut with a saber saw above the flange of the half I was saving. I took an angle grinder around the flange to remove half. I will weld this tank back together as I remove the remainder of the flange. I spot welded a strip of metal around the one half to keep it centered while welding and have a backing for welding the seam. I will spot weld the two halves together and then grind away the flange here and there in the area I am welding until the tank is welded all the way around and the flange is gone. That is the plan anywho. I am toying with some other modifications that are more dramatic but they are not in stone yet.

I used a couple of bent 1/2" conduit pipes and shot through them into the tank with my sand blaster. I kept blasting till no more dust came out. When I looked in the tank what I could see was shinny. I gave it a shot of epoxy tank sealer I got from NAPA and it is still good.
