I am in the middle of stripping and painting a front blade and I went to the PPG store the other day and had them mix yet another "custom red" for me. Rod and CNKS, You remember all the color swatches when I restored the super a?

Well... I finally got a real nice deep red out of the following mix. If you can get them to mix a pint first, try these numbers and see what you think, it sure does look great!

M104 Organic red 1192 grams
M134 Violet 2126
M130 Orange 2750
M117 Jet Black 2864
MX195 Accelera 2941
MI149 Clear 4394

The first number is the amount added to a empty gallon can in grams. The following colors/numbers are what the weight goes up to as each color is added to the gallon can, a cumulative total if you will. Their formula calls for close to 900 grams of orange and this formula is 625 or so, 150 less than my previous mix. I just wanted to post this in case I loose the recipie and need more.

Hope all is well,

Scott#2

Don't know if anyone has brought this up before but 20% of men are red&green color deficient. It doesn't mean you can't recognize red or green; it just means you may see a different shade than someone who is not. And unless you've taken a color-chart test (one of those where there's a bunch of colored dots on a page and you're supposed to see a letter or number in the dots) you'll never know.

Thanks -- I printed it out. I have messed with it some, but it still has too much orange. Like you I have found that you can't be conservative when getting rid of the orange. I would like to find an original tractor somewhere that I could polish to see what the original paint looked like. They don't exist. I don't know that I remember it being a "deep" red, but it certainly wasn't orange. Sometime I'm going to have IH 50 (PPG 70093) mixed and see what it looks like. However, that number comes up as a Chrysler color. I have decided that the "correct" color is whatever suits the painter, as the original colors are long gone.

Sounds great Scott. OMNI mixing tints, correct? I'm not into Farmall colors but that might solve CNKS's orange tint issue if he hasn't already got there another way.

Yep, Omni tints. I had an old label with the last mix spilled on it and when I got home the other day with this can, I opened it up and stirred it and dribbled some of it on that label next to the previous color. I went out tonight and looked at both colors side by side and was very pleased with the difference, slight but still a difference. It really struck a familiar realization when I glanced at it, so I know its very close to being right, looks just like the color on the can at the IH dealer.

The Case-IH 2150 I have matches 71310 exactly, or vice versa. I am not sure that Valspar is consistent from one batch to the other, though. Some say that 2150 is orange, others say they can't see the orange.
