I'm restoring a ferguson TO35. A combination of paint stripper and blasting etc. I'm going to use an epoxy primed and PPG omni paint. I have three questions
1.What can I use or do to hold bare parts in the white till I get ready to spray them all. I don't want to mix and shoot and clean gun everyday,a few parts at a time. I'm taking tractor apart except for transmission and rear end and working on parts a few at a time.
2. Has anyone used a hydroblast system where an attachment is used on a hi pressure washer to mix sand into the water stream? I understand this is a good way to go. Any equiptment suggestions for the attachment?
3.The sheetmetal parts I chemically strip but there are small areas of rust that I blast out. This leaves a matt finish on the metal next to a smooth finish. I want the final results to be very glossy wet look with clear top coat. What to do about matt blast areas and castings to get smooth finish?

Picklex 20 ($$$), and Must For Rust (Home Depot) $ work well for rust prevention on bare metal as long as they are kept dry. They leave a white residue which may or may not be a problem. I remove as much as I can with scotchbrite pads and treat with wax and grease remover. I have not used the process you mention in #2. As to the sand blasted spots, sand the whole thing with 180, any difference in the metal will be hidden by the Omni 181 or 182 surfacer that you should use on top of the epoxy anyway (on the sheet metal only). The chemically stripped sheet metal MUST be sanded with 180 to assure adhesion of the MP 170 epoxy. Remember that MP 170 has a 3 day window in which to topcoat, otherwise it has to be scuffed and reapplied.

I forgot the cast you mentioned. It was rough when new, leave it rough before you paint. The difference in texture due to anything you do won't be noticeable due to the rough nature of the cast -- it came from the factory with differences anyway.
