Pulled the JD D into the barn this p.m. and hit the back of another tractor and pushed in the grill about 3 inchesall across and about 4 in. from the bottom. I"m sick about it. How hard is it to get a new grill?

follow-up, Found a body shop to bend the bars back to position. May have to cut the screen ( which is already broken in several areas from impact it got crushed)Thinks $25-50 will doit and 3-4 days. What a good surprise!

If you want original looks I think you'll be disappointed in the reproduction grills someone was making. Like said check out tonystractors.com for reproduction grill bars and other vendors have the screen too. We have straightened those grill bars before but you have to make yourself some bar dies to reshape them back with again with the screen out and sometimes have to take the bars off by removing tack welds and then welding them back on again. Time consuming to say the least but well worth it once done.

Thanks guys. It looks just more or less cosmetic. I"m going to try reforming the thing. It"s worse on the right side but I don"t think anything serious is broken. I plowed into the back of a Ford 7000 which seems o.k.(the Ford, that is)

Hi Brad; sorry to hear about your misfortune. If you have a tractor salvage yard in your area they may be able to help you out. You can also do an online search for vintage JD parts. Here are a few sites that might help.

www.atis.net/salyards.shtml (This sight provides a nationwide list of salvage yards)

www.asapagparts.com (has used parts and several locations)

www.tonystractors.com/( carries JD parts to include sheetmetal)

Hope this helps you out.

Ouch. I don't know how hard it would to get a new grill (old or reproduction). I know a guy that parked his tractor on a small him and set the brake and left it there. After a few hours the brakes gave and the thing plowed into a building.

Being that I am a green bleeder, I couldn't stop laughing (with him as he thought it was funny)since it was a red thing and while I felt bad for the guy, I didn't feel that bad. Of course the tractor had recently been redone. I think it caved it in about 5-6 inches, but the line went vertically. He took it to somebody that used a press and pressed it carefully back out. A little body work, some paint, and it looks like new. Something to think about.
