Power Red MS 2, 1974-1985, CASE P/N B17672
Power Red ( Case Code# MS 2) was used on Case 1974-1985 production models such as a 1070 series tractor. The color scheme for those units consisted of a white cab/white hood /side panels (Power White), orange wheel hubs/chassis/engine (Power Red), and outer rims silver.
IH 2150 Red was used on IH 1969-1981 production models. The 2150 was comprised of three pigments, BON Red, Molybdenum Orange, and a small amount of Titanium Dioxide. The orange pigment was the source of lead chromate in the red colors. Manufactures initiated conversion to lead and chrome free red finishes in the latter 1970’s. Color matching specified direct sunlight as opposed to incandescent light sources. This explains how lead free and leaded formulas can appear mismatched when viewed under florescent or incandescent lighting. There are cases where cost was a deciding factor to completely change a corporate color, Caterpillar did exactly that with cost in mind. The currently used red, Case IH MS 3 Gloss Red has been in production use since 1961. Magnums and Maxxums bear this shade of red. At present, CNH applies a urethane topcoat over an epoxy primer, clear coats are not used in production. The process after cleaning and iron phosphating consists of: 1. epoxy ester prime 2. 15 minute flash off 3. urethane topcoat 2.8 VOC 2.8 at the gun with a 60 min pot life 4. 15 minute flash off 5. two zone gas fired oven; zone one @ 140 F for fifteen min: zone two @ 220 F for fifteen minutes Primer and Topcoat furnished by PPG Industries
