Does anyone have paint codes for a 1964 4000? After reading on this site most of the afternoon, I'll probably use PPG MP170 Omni epoxy primer and the PPG OMNI Acrylic Urethane MTK for a top coat.

I think the code for blue is 12809, but I'm not sure which code to use for gray, or even which shade of gray to use. It appears to be either light or medium, and has somewhat of a brown tint to it.

Also, most Ford LP's I've seen have the tank painted the same color as the engine. Mine is painted white. Did they come both ways?

Hello Richard;

Here's what I did to obtain the right colors in Omni AU. I went to CNH and bought a spray can of each color of Ford paint. The can label will have what year(s) the color was used. I then sprayed a scrap piece of metal with each color and took it to my local auto paint store where he matched up the paint. Worked very well.

When it comes to colors of the early Fords there has been much discussion and opinion. Bottom line, it's what makes you happy. Hope this helps.

That's a great idea. There's a FNH dealer about 15 miles away that I can visit this week.

Thanks!

Yes, thanks, I have that info. I don't know which is which though. Which gray paint is for a 1964 4000?

I know nothing about Ford colors -- Ask on the Ford forum. But, I assume since the blue you mentioned is 1963-1965, and the gray is 1965, I assume that the same color was used in 1964. Rod admits that his data is incomplete. Much of the old paint data is not necessarily accurate, but it is all we have. And, my experience with the IH colors indicates that they are not the same as the original colors, anyway. That statement likely applies to all manufacturers. Likely due to environmental regulations and the resulting formulation changes through the last 30 years or so. So, unless you come across a strict member of the correct police, you will never know the difference. That guy is probably wrong anyway.
