Is there a Red Powder Coat that matches with International Harvester Red for a 1967 656? One more question, what colors are the rims supposed to be anyway? I have seen photos in White, Red and Silver.

Joe

Don't think any one made a stab at answering your question. The IHC Farmall and International 656 had IHC Red Wheel Centers and the Rims were bright Aluminum color. All IHC'c of that era used this color scheme except the Industrial which of course was Federal Highway Yellow Wheel Centers and again the Rims were bright Aluminum. This color scheme was on the Rear Wheels. The front's were solid color for that particular Tractor.Farm's were IHC Red and Industrial was Federal Highway Yellow.

Dick L said: (quoted from post at 17:01:46 01/27/08) You might want to review the videos of the reasons to powder coat the frame in this project rather than paint, when they get them posted to this site. It might be an eye opener. I am watching this rebuild for the second time on the speed channel.

They most likely will not post the videos until after they complete the second TV run. Last Saturday they ran the same episode as they did the week before. They moved ahead one episode yesterday. Not sure how many weeks before it ends. Direct TV 607 9:00 am Sat.

Dick,

Can you be specific about which show, which site, which videos? I am confused if you are talking about a tractor rebuild, car rebuild, tractor show etc?

Thanks,

Joe

If you click on the word punch it will bring up the Chop Cut Rebuild website.
It is a car show and all the information about the show and some short teaser videos from the shows. The reason I posted was when they powder coated the frame of the car they told how much more resistant to stone chips it was than paint. I thought reading or watching from one of the most renouned restoring shops would mean more that what I related that would be taken as a hicks opinion. If you click on the link you can see some clips. I understand that the complete show will be able to be seen some time in the future.

I don't know much about powder coating, I imagine you have to experiment with mixing until you are satisfied. The rear rims are silver, I believe don't believe they were galvanized as in the earlier models. Either way there is no official silver color, as an outside vendor supplied the rims, and IH only specified rust prevention. Front wheels and rims were red. I believe the "Utility" models such as the Hydro, had white wheels and rims, front and rear.

Powder coat has NO corrosion resistance to it so if it gets nicked or chipped through to metal the elements will get in and undermine it and start rusting underneath it until you have a large blister of rust before you even reallize it. Good quallity primer/paint will only rust right where the chip is and no further.

In the second sentence omit the 1st believe, IE "I don't believe they--"
