Which brands and paint codes do you use to paint your IH tractors? What other chemicals do you add such as thinners, hardeners etc. do you use? How much do these cost and how much is required to complete whole tractor? On rims, how long do you let the paint set-up before attempting to mount the tires?

Thanks,

Joe

The answer depends on the product. Spec sheets are available for quality paint, usually at the companies web site. From them you will get exact instructions. Quality paint, including primers, reducers, etc for that size tractor can easily cost $500. Or you can buy cheap paint from farm stores and spend $50. Stay away from hardeners unless you have a supplied air breathing system. Installing tires will damage the paint no matter how long you wait, also depends on how careful the installer is.

i prime or seal the wheels, mount the tires, then paint them. if not the paint will get messed up. if i didnt paint for a living i would powder coat the wheels and then mount the tires. as for what paint and chemicals that is based on how much you want to spend. i use sherwin williams genisis single stage on my stuff but it is pricey. it does go a long ways though. if this is your first time painting find a good local automotive paint store. they should be helpfull and know what they are doing. if they treat you crappy go find an other one. if you dont want to spend the money and want a tractor paint try a larger house paint store for industrial enamel they can make your color and will help you with things. giid luck jim
