I have a 53 Super H with an older restore. The last owner took great care of this tractor and kept let it set out over night approx 10 days since 1992. I would like to touch up a few areas but I can not find the right color. I have tried all the CIH brand, Vansickle, and the close colors that walmart sells. I have painted them on scrap metal and they are all too bright in the daylight. The tractor seems to be a maroon IH color. Any idea what it might be? Some one thought maybe a Wheelers or Country General brand color?? Any ideas?

I always thought the old IH's were brigther than the new colors avalible. An old friend of mine that worked for IH for 40 years says that todays so called "IH" reds are too dark. Just what ive heard, dont know if there is any truth to it or not.

I hate to be discouraging, but it will be almost impossible to match. You can do as Mike says, but it's still going to show. Problem is the paint is faded. The original color on your tractor was IH 1102b -- I don't know what that crosses to, I don't think any of the major paint companies can cross to that color (I have use for that code, if anyone knows what it crosses to). If it is not the original paint, it's anybody's guess as to what the color is. You will never find it looking at the different brands of tractor store paint, either. Perhaps you can find something you can live with, but it won't match.

Take a small piece off the tractor to a paint shop or most body shops and they can mix it to match. My 2 cents.
