I just got done redoing a deere and am wishing I had used the buff color from the dealer. It makes the color so much better when you are done. There is a visible difference in the yellow (and somewhat the green) when you use a buff versus grey primer.

I have trouble seeing red and ac orange so I use contrasting colors, but thats with my eye's. I can see ok but some colors together are hard for me to see when one starts and the other stops. If Icould I would like to use the red epoxy and orange top coat. That does not work for me. I use grey with orange. DS

Yes there is a difference, and the short answer is don't use the red. Modern primer comes in shades, and the shade you use is a matter of personal preference actually. PPG epoxy for instance comes in black, white, or gray and can be tinted to any variation. The red primer is mainly used on steel structures. It stands up to weather fairly well but is just not good for most applications.

Use a two part epoxy primer. I think most are gray, some brands do have a choice of color. The red primer you are thinking about is not as good as epoxy. Others may disagree, but I prefer a contrasting color so that I am sure I get good coverage of the topcoat in out of the way places (IH) so gray is fine with me.
