How much differance does the right shaded of green. red what ever does it make to the value of your restoration project? Farm and Fleet colors not quite right, paint shop is EXPENSIVE, back to the dealer for paint? Rustoleum, primers alot of time I don"t see primer on the old stuff or proper prep. Are we doing to much? for beauty.? Mike

Hey Mike,
I do a lot of tractor painting (mainly Case Magnum Series). I use PPG's off brand base/clear (ShopLine) I buffed out an old part and had them do a color match. I got by on about two quarts of paint ($52.00 and a gallon of cheap clear $65.00)Not only do you get a long lasting durable finish, but if you happen to get a run or other errors they can be a lot easier to fix. Just remember when you are restoring a tractor it should look better than new when you are done and that we are all perfectionist's but to our own standards. Go to a tractor auction sometime and look at some of the so called new paint jobs and ask yourself if you would be satisfied with that and you will find your answer.

A '45 JD worked and left out of doors until '50 would probably have been rust brown. If taken care of and inside , maybe 10 yrs. If that is good enough for you then by all means do it the way they did. Otherwise do as the post below says.
