Restoring an F-20. Bought a nice aftermarket cast aluminum seat. I also want to polish the magneto. I am wondering what is necessary to paint the seat the same as the tractor and also if I can paint a clear coat over the magneto so the aluminum won't oxidize.

Hi Scott,

Here's what I would do, using PPG products. I'm sure there are other solutions also.

For the seat:
1. DX533 aluminum cleaner
2. DX503 aluminum conditioner
3. OMNI MP170 epoxy primer
4. Topcoat of your choice

For the magneto:
1. DX533 aluminum cleaner
2. DX501 aluminum conditioner
3. DAU75 acrylic urethane clear

Note: there are isocyanates in the DXR80 hardener required for the DAU75 clear. If you do not have the proper respiratory equipment to safely spray iso-containing materials, look for an acylic clear in a rattle can as the next best alternative. Try Duplicolor for that.
