I have a 275 gal. oil tank that I cut out one of the sides, which will be replaced by a custom built door with a window and hand gloves. My question is that there are three 2" taps on the top, can I hook up my shop vac to one, forcing air in and use the other two for discharge to the outside of my shop, my door will have a gasket to seal it as tight as possible. This way I would not have to worry about cleaning filters and have good air exchange. It wouldn't be hard to correct if it does not work. Anybody done this? or any suggestions?

[I just built a sand trap for my new cabinet. I really took allot of ideas from other cabinets and combined them into mine. I'm going to give it a try this sunday and I'll let you know how it works. Basically, a sand trap is not muc more than a series of baffles thet trap the sand as the air is pulled through it. I'm goin gto first try it with My shop vac and if it doesn't do the trick I'll hook it up to the shop dust collector.
I'll snap some pictures and post if you want. I also drew it up with a cad program if you want to take a look.

I found a way to vent the system that work Great You don"t even have to close the door completly or worry about bad seals. I ran my shop vac on blower and inside the tank I aim it down into a 4" PVC pipe that removes the dust (venturi system)to the outside. I have also removed the sand from tank and painted with the door wide open and smelled no fumes! I had extra paint in the sprayer and started painting the outside of the door and it sucked the vapors in. Hopefully I can get some photo"s with this to show you my system

Contemplating similar system on my cabinet, only using 1/2 hp hi-volume blower.Getting tired of replacing"dust collector"vacuum motors, filters etc every year or so.Generally homeowner grade"shop-vacs" are not designed for long term continuous operation under load.Blower I scrounged is off a woodshop dust collector system and rated"continuous duty".Even w/outside exhaust.I kinda figured a basic bag would good idea(old sweatpant leg or such)just to keep dust from blowing all over.Using positive pressure, rather than a vacuum might even be feasible w/squirrel cage fan as little pressure is required, just large volume of air.
