I have a red International pedal tractor that my husband received for his 1st birthday back in the 70s. When he was about 5, he decided to "paint" and it now has white streaks of paint all over it. Now, 30 years later, I want to get my son's picture taken on this neat old pedal tractor, but I would really like to find a way to remove the white paint without removing the original International red color. Any suggestions?

On smaller toys I have used SOS pads in a sink full of dish water. That way you can keep it rinsed clean and not remove more paint than nessary. When dry the old paint will be dull. To brighten the orginal paint you can mist (clear enamal) and buff dry. You dont let the enamal dry after spraying, you buff it dry.
You could not see any green when I started. A collector ask me what I was going to do with it right after I bought it. I told him I thought I would remove the old paint and repaint it. He told me about this method and I must have had a doubting look because he said what do you have to loose if it does not work and at least you will have clean hands.

This sounds like a good idea, too. And thanks for the photo, you did a great job.

That will be a long back aching job on that large of a toy. I did that little truck over two or three hiches. The bigger red backed truck behind the green one needs the same treatment and I can not get my heart into it. I think you can see the run in the picture.

try a little oven cleaner in an inconspicous spot to see if will remove the original finish,if not, oven cleaner will usually remove it. works good to remove lettering on truck doors too.
