In the process of painting my Farmall M, primed the hood and have a couple particles (gnats possibly) and was wondering if I could sand with like a 1200 grit or something (wet sand possibly) before I shot it with the final coats of paint. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you haven't already done it, primer on sheetmetal needs to be wetsanded for better bonding or adhesion, also removes the little blemishes you described. I use 400 wet and dry, wipe or blow dry. Be sure to use a tack rag on the metal to remove any dust bugs or remains from sanding.

No need for 1200. 400 is fine enough for primer. If gooy like epoxy a little mineral spirits and DA paper doesn't clog but will dry out hands. Allow to dry and remove any film prior to topcoat.
