All this worry about lead in paint has me mystified! During my working years in auto body work, i ground, sanded, primed, and painted on cars and trucks, with no problems from lead in the paints! Folks used "red lead" paint for a prime coat on barns, etc. Barges and bridges painted with non-lead paints or primers didn't keep their good looks for very long! I painted inside my home with paint with lead in it. My home during my youth had lead in the paints! Whats the problem? Oh, yeah, some po' folks didn't give their kids the right kinds of food, so the kids ate the paint chips from the window sills! And, i never was affected by paints with lead in them! UNTIL!! The paint makers decided to start using isocyanates in the auto paints, and later on in other paint products. And my problems began. Being that, in my youth, i had exzema, and asthma problems, and being that the paint folks didn't warn us who had those diseases about the effects of ISOS, until it was much too late, I am now unable to go inside an auto body shop when or after painting has been going on or been done lately! My breathing reaches the SCARY stage immediately, and i have to get away to fresh air ASAP! I never had breathing problems with painting cars with lead-based paints, but ISOS?? Yes! So, why the change? Not cheaper paints, Maybe a bit better finish, or base coat/clear coats, for the diamond like finishes. So, take my advice: buy the correct equipment for using paints with ISOS in it. You'll thank me for my advice later on! And, if ya think ya don't need that fancy stuff----- ---
