Do you have to thin primer. I know you do the paint but was not sure about primer.

Thanks,

RD

Please state exactly what the primer is and some-one will answer your Q.

If it sprays out of the gun, it's fine. If it spits, reduce it.

Follow the instructions on the can or P-sheet. If there are no instructions, it isn't quality primer anyway. Simple answer is that some are reduced, some aren't. Epoxy primer usually isn't, surfacers and primer surfacers, at least the ones I use, are. Epoxy dries very fast as long as the temperature is at least 65-70 degrees. Those are the only two primers I use. Reducers do more than just "thin" the paint or primer. You can adjust the "flash" or recoat time to suit the temperature at which you are spraying. Good reducers are made for different temperatures.

Not having painted in over a year, I went brain dead (an all too frequent happening)-- NONE of the "primers" that I use require reducer. They do use either a catalyst or hardener, which are really more for curing rather than thinning (epoxy and urethane will not cure without them). So do what the instructions say.
