Any opinions on to paint or not paint a radiator? Just had a shop to clean and check out a radiator for leaks. I can't remember if he advised me to paint or not. I know Eastwood Co. sells a special paint for radiators, I think it says thinner and not supposed to clogg. Any downfalls to not painting.

regular rad paint has a tar base to it, we would use gas to thin it and paint the whole rad, it keeps the copper fins from corroding fron mostly road salt sucking in from front.or just what ever acid or grime gets to it.

i usually slip a piece of cardboard over the coils, and then paint the tanks/sides. I don't fret if i get a lil paint on the radiator. i have a ford 660, that the rad shop painted ford red for me when it was worked on.. it is 100% painted... tractor never has had a problem with it in the last 4ys I've had it that way..

One of the issues concerning the painting of radiators is that some heavier paints reduce the heat dissipation. You also want to protect the surface from corrosion. Using the Eastwood product is okay.

A friend of mine has used, with much success, Eastwood products. Paint it, make it look good. I'm actually surprised your radiator shop didn't repaint it. Oh, well now you can!!!

I haven't seen the Eastwood product. I paint the tanks and the sides and leave the core alone, for fear of getting too much paint in it. Probably ok to paint it if you are careful. As to appearance, It's usually hard to see much of the radiator anyway.
