Is there a way that you can apply a second and maybe third coat of paint if the original coat is 2 weeks old? Weather and other emergencies kept me from applying the additional coats in the approved time frame.

Thanks,

RD

You have two opportunities to repaint. Within the suggested time limit of the paint type or after it's fully cured which without hardener could be months. If you paint between these windows you risk lifting and wrinkling. A mess. All depends on the paint type.

I did use a hardner in the paint. Can you tell me how long i should expect it to take to cure?

Thanks,

RD

Depends on what kind of paint you used and what the recoat time is. The original coat should be sanded or at least scuffed. You can probably do that if you used hardener, perhaps not if you didn't, you may have to wait longer. As to not finishing, quality paint can be applied at 15 minute intervals.

I used Tractor Supply Enamel with hardner. The paint says wait 24 hours before the second coat but that is without hardner.

This is a tractor so I am really looking for a functional paint job. I just purchased the tractor and it was really in bad shape. I think it had been painted before because it was peeling really bad and when I sanded it the original color came out in places.

Thanks for your help.

RD

They are not saying to wait 24 hrs before you apply the second coat! What they are saying is to wait 24 hrs before "recoating". Second and successive coats should be applied as soon as it "flashes off" or surface dries to the touch (moving a finger across a spot of mask tape or paper) Re-coating refers to re-painting in case something goes wrong. In any case , I would wait at least 2 to 3 months if it were me even with hardner with this type paint. And yes it needs sanded or scotchbrited before re-painted (600 or 800 grit wet paper) If you only have one coat on it , you may be able to get on it quicker. Try an inconspicious spot where it won't show if it wrinkles. You might find that 2 wks is enough. There are a lot of variables that we don't know. Experiment!
