Hardeners help bring out the shine, make the paint dry faster, fade slower, and last longer. It makes repairs easier to make if you mess up an area. Also more resistance to gasoline. Paint chips, if that is what you are refering to is more likely due to lack of surface preparation or some other factor such as incompatible primer and paint, than lack of hardener.

MAKE SURE if you use a hardener in your paint, that you use some sort of fresh air system to breathe with. Hardeners contain ISOCyanates, which are LETHAL in high enough dosages. For alternatives to expensive fresh air systems, I built a DIY fresh air box out of a bathroom fan, some hardware items and 2 x 4' sheet of 3/4" plywood. I used it last time I painted tractor parts with hardener, and it worked really well. You only get one set of lungs!

Sorry about that, the browser kept saying Server not found, instead of saying it was posted.
