I have been reading the posted messages regarding the brands of paint made by PPG and DuPont. My question is, how close can these paint colors be mixed to match the John Deere Green and Allis Chalmers Corporate Orange? Which paints will hold their shine and color longer, the orginal equipment dealer paint or the PPG or DuPont?

Looking for paint called Dull Raven Black #4501 used years ago by Volvo Truck Co. Have been told it is either PPG or Dupont number and paint. Please email if you can find anything regarding this paint. Thanks

Hi, In the late 70's I used a teflon paint under the name, By Lucite "Alice Blue" for walls. I was wondering if you still make this color? I live in Malden Mass. 02148 and if you do, where is the closest store to buy it? I'd appreciate this info because I want to keep my front hall this same color. THANKS

Ask for the paint codes on the respective discussion boards. Du Pont and PPG are both better than any dealers paint, and more expensive.

You get what you pay for!! The PPG is in my opinion the best but its spendy. Dependig on what line of PPG you are using. The cheapest of the PPG line is the OMNI line, which would be either MAE acrylic enamel (cheepest) or the MTK acrylic urethane (little more $). The best single stage product id PPD's DCC acrylic urethane but now we are talking quite a bit more cash. All of these products will match the originals very close. Your dealer should have a list of the agriculture paint codes. Anyway, these are your choices from PPG if you are doing a single stage refinish. Just my opinion-ROCK ON!

How expensive? How long do they last if you add hardener? Will primer help the paint last longer?

Haven't bought any paint lately, but plan on about 3x more (someone correct me)for brand name paints. DO NOT try to paint without primer unless you are using a rust converter, the topcoat won't stick as well. If you are using a rust converter, you may not need primer, but if you read the fine print, it will probably say that better results are obtained with a primer. Hardeners result in much faster drying time, easier repairs if you mess up, make the paint flow out better (more gloss), adds resistance to gasoline spills, and reduced fading.

both paint co. are good, if they werent they wouldnt be in business anymore!! right? i have used dupont for 10 yrs now. i also have used PPG. they are all $$$ but the cheaper products both do make work well. i know dupont has a line of paint called "NASON" it is very good and 1/2 the price of their CHROMABASE" system. it is made in basecoat/clear coat and single stage. my opinion "laquer went out with polio" dont wasnt your time or $$$ on it. epoxy primers are the best. the hardner once mixed dont last long, maybe 1hr pot life. read the lables. and old bodyman trick, put leftover hardend mixed paint in your fridge. ya may get a long work time out of it. sorry for the long posted message
