I plan to paint my tractor outside but the entire posting about fresh air respirators has my knees weak with the thought of using hardeners with my NAPA acrylic enamel and a 3M half mask.

What if I shoot the tractor without the hardener then have a professional shoot it with a clear coat?

Randy --- If you are painting outside, there will be enough air movement to carry the overspray away from you...the air movement is ever changing, just stay up wind.....use a fume resperator, you will be ok.....

Randy, why not just have the professional paint the color coat, then you won’t have to worry.
~If you shoot a clear coat over the A.E. you risk problems down the road if the clear is chemically hardened & dries faster than the base coat, trapping solvents under the clear coat. ~Try calling some of the paint companies, I believe some of the urethanes don't use a toxic hardener.
~One other thing to think about: you can probably buy a fresh air system for less than the cost of the clear & paying someone to do it. Then you will have it for future use.

Thanks for the advice. You make a good point on the cost of a professional clear coat making a fresh air pack worth while. I will check around and see if I can find a urethane that is less toxic.
Good advice and I greatly appreciate your reply.

I bought a fresh air system from Len on www.autobody.com. I use it for sandblasting and painting. Glad I sprung for the dollars.
