Can someone please tell me how much I should expect to spend on a good automotive quality acrylic enamel. I have to decide on a finish for my 48 Allis C. Also, does every brand make Persian Orange #1?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jeff,

I recently purchased some persian orange (#1, so called) in the PPG OMNI line in acrylic enamel at about $13 per quart, as I recall. The number is PPG OMNI MAE60080, the MAE indicating acrylic enamel. I believe that pumpkin shade of persian orange is also available in DuPont's NASON line of paints but I am not positive of the exact number there. See my previous post at the link below. I cannot verify any other brands.

I am not sure what you mean by "good". Both OMNI and NASON are considered to be "economy" lines. You cannot get that exact shade mixed in the higher end automotive paints...at least not anymore. Auto refinish professionals would not consider the economy lines to be "good"...but then again they tend to think in terms of paints costing $200 and UP per gallon plus the same amount for the required clear coats. My personal opinion is that either OMNI or NASON (in single stage) is "good" by any reasonable standard. I am using OMNI on my own AC B, although I am using acrylic urethane rather than acrylic enamel.
