Hi I was searching klassic trucks and found this board. I am going to use Sherwin Williams GBH
self etching primer on my truck. $88 gal. I was
in Murray's auto the other day and they are selling Dupli-Color enamel for $36 gal. Has anyone ever heard of it before. I've seen this brand for years in spray can form, and was wondering if anyone's ever used it "out of the can" before?

Thanks for that advice. I'm painting an old rescue truck. It will be white with some blue trim. The paint at Murray's is called "fleet white". When I was there, the reducer was right below it, but I will take a closer look.
thanks

I can't say for sure but judging from the price I would tend to think that the paint is just synthetic enamel.

Read the intructions carefully. If the label says "Ready to Spray" then that means it already has the reducer added and that means you will have to buy 2-3 gallons to paint your truck. If the lables says to reduce then 1 gallon MIGHT be enough, depending on color, how much of the truck you are going to paint (inside bed, door edges, door jams, ect) and the paint depth you are looking for.

Consider also the synthetic enamel requires a different reducer and hardener, doesn't buff well, and as far as I know you can not cover it with clear should you wish to do so.

You can get Dupont's Nason brand of paint in either urethane or acrylic enamel for about $40-$75 a gallon (depending on color and type) and that is good paint with no questionable results.
