Don't cringe its just a question: I'm restoring a '48-8N. Mechanically it'll be great but, I'm looking to use it, not show it. I don't have a paint booth or spray equipment and I don't want to pay for a body shop. Could I use a paint like Rustoleum on the castings (not the exhaust manifold of course). Would the engine itself get too hot for a paint like this?

I have just completed a similar project with a 300 utility and John I brushed the casting with paint from tractor supply which does not show brush marks on cast metal, then I spray canned the rest,I dont intend to put it in a show but it turned out to be a pretty impressive user

Cliff, I have completed 2 internationals, a 240 and a 340, now working on a Frod 600; have used aerosol product on the wheels and rims successfully. The chasis and sheet metal I have used TSC paint with my spray gun and it looks good for about a year then dulls. Would hold up better if the tractor was always parked indoors but I use my tractors so appearence is secondary to corrosion protection.

Paint the engine with the same paint as you use on the rest of the tractor. The engine does not require a high temperature resistant paint. Use Rust-Oleum Bar-B-Q Black High Heat paint on the manifold, resists heat up to 1,200 degrees.
