Can someone please give me an idea of how thin the paint is supposed to be for HVLP? I'm spraying Ford/NH enamel and can says 8:1. Seems to still be too thick. What do I look for? My first spray job. Also what is a good pressure to supply to the gun. (I have no instructions with this gun.)
Thanks,
JD

I see you haven't got any help.....so I am going to try to get you started..... Mix up a pint total
75% paint--25% thinner..... air pressure at35#...try that...adjust the gun until you see what the knobs do..... if you are getting a finish that looks like a "orange",thats called orange peel.....only adjust one thing at a time,so you will know what the change did....first try more air pressure ....up 5# at a time...if that don't help, add more thinner.....when you get the finish you want,practice.....hold the gun straight 90* from the surface...if the surface is curved ,make your pass with the spray gun follow that curve....hold the gun off the surface to be painted pull the trigger and move across don't release the triger until you have gone off the other side move down 50% of your spray pattern pull the trigger and come back..... you want these passes to cover the primer about 50%.....the first coat is called your tack coat....the gun adjustment and the speed of your pass determins the amount of paint you lay down.....just lay it on as if you were using a brush.....PRACTICE,PRACTICE..... paint the cast iron parts first, your sheet metal last...

Thanks, Don.
I thought 8:1 was too thick. I'll try it your way. It definitely will take some experimenting.
