I have a Cockshutt 550 red-belly and the paint is in good condition. How do I get the faded areas not covered with old hard grease back to a darker red. Also, the original decals are in place and I'd like to retain those if possible. Thanks,

This would be a lot of work on large objects but, I have brought the luster back to antique toys by cleaning them with seelwool, get the area totaly dry, put a light spray of clear enamel on a very small area and buff it off immediately with a soft cloth. Repete untill the whole area has been treated. Do not let the clear enamel dry even a little.

Thanks to all who responded with helpful hints.
Does anyone have any experience with a product called Color Back? A local dude has indicated that it is good for restoring old paint. Thanks to all again.

Seems to me you would want to work the finish with mild rubbing compound to the extent it would not wear through to the base metal, avoiding decals.

Same way you would a car. Get an automotive cleaner, then wax it.
