I am painting an AC B. This old tractor has rust pits on the hood and grille. Can I use bondo or fiberglass resin to basically use it like drywall mud to fill the pits.or is there a better product available. Your help will be appreciated because this is my first restoration project.

PPG makes makes MX198 (replaced by MX241 and MX245, I believe -- I have 198 but haven't used it yet). This is sprayed through a paint gun with hardener and is a sprayable "body filler". Actually it is a polyester primer. It can replace the primer surfacer, but for the smoothest finish it should be followed with primer surfacer.

For shallow pits, I use Kilz in a rattle can, which is a primer/surfacer to lay down some thickness into the pit. When dry, run over with 220 so all you're left with is a filled pit. For thick pits I use polyester filler on a really flexible putty knife, sand with 220 and then go back with the Kilz for smooth out.
