Is it necessary or advisable to use a hardner with Dupont Nason acrylic enamel? If so, what brand and # of hardner works well? thanks, Dean

Rod is correct. I just finshed my WD-45 with Nason. It is a great product. IMO. Yes, it requires a specfic hardner, (sold with the paint) and reducer. I believe the ratio is 8:1:2.. It lays down nicely.. I think I paid about $150 for a gallon of paint, quart of hardner, and gallon of reducer. Cheap IMO for the quility..

The paint that I have is Nason Fastdry Machinery & Equipment Acrylic Enamel. I am planing on useing Nason Bond Seal 422-46 under it. I checked with the paint supplier and they tell me that Nason dosen't have a hardner to use with there Acrylic enamels. I am wondering if I can use NAPA Martin Senor hardner that is for Acrylic in this paint.????

Hi Dean,

It's usually advisable to use a hardener with acrylic enamel since it tends to improve the chemical resistence of the film and permits recoating without problems of lifting. The hardener usually contains isocyanates though that present a potential health-safety problem. Such materials should not be used, IMO, without a fresh air-supplied respirator.

As I recall, the NASON acrylic enamel, unlike most others, actually requires the hardener be used in order for the paint to even dry properly. I recommend you check out the actual technical data sheet for the product you are contemplating to see if it is actually required. You can find it at the link below by poking around in the technical manuals section of the site.

The tech data sheet will tell you what specific hardener, if any, must be used with the product. I would definitely recommend you stay with the NASON hardener for their brand of paint rather than trying to mix and match between different manufacturer's.
