Anyone know who makes the paints sold by F-NH?

I'm getting ready to paint my 601. In my haste & exuberance, I rushed out & bought a couple qts of the Ford red & gray which I was told was an "acrylic enamel". Nothing on the label, though, specifically tells me it's an acrylic.

Assuming it IS, however, I'd like to look at some manufacturer specs to see if any hardeners are recommended for it.

Sorry for such a gawdawful dumb question. Shoulda done my dang homework before jumping in!

Anyway, if ya gots some ideas, I'd appreciate hearing 'em ..

John

Valspar makes the paint.

I used it to restore my Uncles 8-N and it worked really well.

Hi John,

No such thing as a dumb question. You may have some difficulty getting what you are looking for in writing. If your paint doesn't indicate on the label whether it is an alkyd (synthetic) or acrylic enamel or what, if any, hardeners or other additives are to be used, I would have little confidence in what someone "told me".

My first thought would be to take the paint back to where you bought it and try to get a refund. Your best bet, IMO, would be to get into an automotive paint line where detailed mix and application information from the manufacturer is readily available on line. It will likely cost more that way but you will be assured of getting specific information and winding up with a good product without those nasty "unforeseen problems" ruining your entire job.

I think you're exactly right. Without specific label instructions, it's a crap shoot. Guess I just grabbed the FNH paint thinking "OEM .. must be the right stuff." Oh well, it isn't the first time I've gotten excited about a project & done something kinda silly. The automotive paint lines like PPG & DuPont might just be the better approach.

Thanks for the reply, Rod
