Prep and primer question

I've recently finished rebuild and mods to my lowboy equipment trailer. I figured to use something like RustOLeum Rusty Metal Primer on the frame under the deck and areas that don't show. I'd like to paint what shows with something that will hold it's gloss better than RustOLeum, etc. This isn't a show trailer but I have put alot of work into it and want a finish that will look good and hold up well. I'm going to sandblast the outside (channel iron). With the weather changing like it is I may have to do the sandblasting over a couple days - blast half/prime, finish the next day/prime and wait for decent weather to top coat. It will remain under tarp or cover. Any suggestions for a primer and top coat? Thanks!

you really should take off all the rust and flakes before painting so your paint will stick and not rust anymaore

for the cheapest and easiest way to go just use laquer primer and enamel paint. enamel will build the heaviest, you said sand blast, that usually leaves a very rough surface. BTW it will react with the rustoleum (oil based) where the two meet. you might think about masking a nice straight line or doing the rustoleum second.

if you dont have a compressor and gun you can also have cans charged with a color you pick out at Napa auto stores. i would use this method over just regular spray cans for two reasons. the cans are larger and the paint is a better quality.

Thanks guys for the help. We had a couple decent days so I was able to sandblast and prime the whole thing. Decided to use paint from local Agco dealer.
