Is there any paint [primer ]that can be sprayed when the temps are in the 30,s? I am currently sanding to bare metal and treating with a rust converter untill spring. Is this the right way to go?

There is a product called Rass O Nil, also known as Picklex 20 -- sold on www.autobodystore.com, look for conversion coatings. It can be applied and painted later, as long as it is kept away from moisture, meaning your tractor must be inside for the winter. I don't know about temperature, but I "think" this product has a very wide temperature range. www.autobodystore.com also has a discussion forum, you should be able to find temperature requirements there.

A caution note for all those who use Rass-O'-Nil, "which is also known as Picklex." Picklex is pirated from Rass-O'-Nil and sold as Picklex 20.
Please read the caution notice at

We invented Rass-O'-Nil and own the trademark.
You may visit www.royresearch.com/rassonil/ for more information on Rass-O'-Nil and how to get it legally.

caution note for all those who use Rass-O'-Nil, "which is also known as Picklex."

International Chemical Products Inc., Huntsville, Alabama, USA fraudulently plagiarised 'Picklex' from Rass-O'-Nil, obtained an United States trademark for it, and applied, jointly with the EPA, for a US Patent. That the EPA, "withdrew from any proprietary position on Picklex" and also withdrew the Patent application vindicates the truth about Picklex .

Hi Bill,

Most paints, including primers, usually are not recommended for use below about 60 deg F. Unless you have some means of getting the temps up around that, I would suggest you hold off until spring. I am not sure about whatever rust converter you are using. That may have temperature and topcoating requirements also. Generally phosphoric acid rust treatments are intended to be topcoated with a primer the same day they are used. Check the manufacturer's recommendations for the product you are using.
